Constructing awards will acknowledge a few of Vancouver Island’s greatest building tasks – Parksville Qualicum Seaside Information

It’s been a busy year building on Vancouver Island, even in a pandemic, and many projects are potentially award-worthy.

The Vancouver Island Real Estate Board’s Commercial Building Awards are virtually all over again this year, and the March 31 nomination deadline is approaching.

“Despite the COVID pandemic, construction was swift in 2020 and a large number of nominations are expected for this reason,” said a press release from the Business Examiner, who coordinates the awards.

Commercial, industrial and high-revenue projects, including renovations, from Malahat to Port Hardy are eligible as long as the work is completed in 2020.

Categories include mixed use, senior housing, community institutions, retail recreational facilities, retail, industrial, apartment buildings, hospitality, commercial renovation / restoration, office, and greenery. There will also be a Judges’ Choice Award for the best overall entry.

A jury from the real estate industry selects the winners.

“Construction and real estate were some of the strongest sectors driving the Vancouver Island economy last year and we expect to see another large number of nominations for this year’s event,” said Mark MacDonald, editor of the business Examiner, in the release.
