Dehradun: A six-year-old boy died after being trapped under the rubble of a house under construction that collapsed in Dehradun’s Sahaspur block after heavy rain on Monday. His eight-year-old sister was saved alive from the rubble.
According to the authorities, pillars of the house in the village of Kotra-Kalyanpur collapsed after heavy rains, causing the entire building to collapse. While construction workers managed to escape before the house collapsed, two children were trapped under the rubble.
A State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team reached the site to conduct search and rescue operations and was able to find the girl in the rubble. “She was trapped for about two hours and we found her alive, but the search for her brother took longer,” said one officer.
The boy’s body was found a few hours later. The siblings – identified only as Astha and Aarav – were part of the family who owned the house. However, no information about her parents was currently available.
The Vikasnagar subdivision judge Saurabh Aswal, the head of the Sahaspur police station and a team from the health department were also on site.
