BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity has been recognized with six leadership roles with AmeriCorps National Construction Crew and is seeking motivated, qualified candidates for the 2021-2022 service year beginning in August.
Habitat AmeriCorps members work full-time paid scholarships to help meet the housing needs of low- to middle-income communities and families in the United States
Applicants who have joined Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity as Habitat AmeriCorps members will be an integral part of the organization’s efforts to provide more affordable home ownership in the Bend and Redmond communities. As Bend and Redmond continue to grow, so does the gap between wages and housing costs. It is extremely difficult for many families and individuals with low to middle incomes to become homeowners in our area. To help tackle this real estate crisis, Habitat is working to build 40 houses over the next three years and 20 houses each year thereafter. During this service year, Habitat expects 16 to 21 houses in various phases of construction.
During a year of service, Habitat leaders will help AmeriCorps Construction Crew Bend-Redmond Habitat achieve their goal by coordinating, leading, training, recruiting and supporting volunteer construction workers, while learning valuable professional and life-related skills. Habitat wouldn’t be able to do what it does without volunteers, and AmeriCorps members provide the necessary support to run multiple projects, grow the volunteer base, build capacity, and ultimately more families and individuals in Bend and Redmond through affordable To support living space.
“Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity is excited to welcome six new AmeriCorps members later this year. We are well on the way to building 40 houses in the next 3 years and then stabilizing at 20 houses per year. Without such partnerships, we cannot build and serve people who need affordable housing. Our local community is committed to helping us change lives through affordable home ownership, but the on-site support at our construction sites is extremely valuable to us, ”said Robin Cooper Engle, VP of Resource Development.
AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that provide intensive care to more than 80,000 Americans across the United Service each year. Since Habitat partnered with AmeriCorps in 1994, more than 10,148 AmeriCorps members have worked with Habitat for Humanity nationwide. They have raised tens of millions of dollars, hired 3.7 million volunteers, and cared for 109,830 people to build strength and stability through safe, affordable housing.
