Construction has begun on a £ 40 million development that will deliver 106 affordable homes in Purley.

The Banstead Road development off Purley Cross in LB Croydon will include a mix of much needed one, two and three bedroom apartments.

The housing provider Optivo will deliver the houses in phase one of the ambitious “Mosaic Place” regeneration project.

Two separate locations in Purley are being refurbished at Mosaic Place. It will offer 3,452 square meters of state-of-the-art community and worship center, retail space and 220 new homes.

The high quality new landscaping areas will benefit future occupiers and the wider community.

Richard White, director of land and new business for Optivo, said, “We already have over 4,000 homes in Croydon and a proud history of delivering quality, affordable homes to the community.

“This is a really exciting project and we are delighted to see that construction is underway on Banstead Road in Purley.

“We are continuing to do everything we can to help tackle the housing crisis. This development is part of our Homes for London 2016-21 program, which will bring 3,600 new homes to the capital.”

Optivo is working with Thornsett Purley Ltd, part of the Thornsett Group, to deliver the 106 houses in a sensitively designed scheme in the “South” location. The building permit was granted in July 2020.

Bernadette Cunningham, Director at Thornsett added, “We are delighted to have worked with Optivo to bring Purley 106 new affordable homes.

“The project is in line with our ethos of developing quality homes and facilities so our communities can thrive. This development really highlights the role small and medium-sized family developers can play in meeting London’s housing needs.”

The work should be completed in October 2022.
