IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) – The City of Iowa Veterans Affairs Health System (ICVAHCS) announces that it has been approved as a priority for the future construction of the VA Fisher House.

This will provide temporary free housing to the families and carers of veterans cared for at the Iowa City VA Medical Center.

“Family support often plays an important role in the care and treatment of patients. A convenient Fisher House near the Iowa City VA Medical Center will improve family support and have important, positive effects on our patients’ outcomes. We are the Fisher. We are the Fisher.” House Foundation and the Department of Veterans Affairs for prioritizing our request. We also thank our regional County Veterans Service Officers, National Veteran Service Officers, Congressional Delegations, Heads of State, and several other veterans stakeholder organizations for taking our request for this fisherman’s house. “

A construction schedule for the Fisher House in Iowa City, VA has not been released. Upon completion, the house will be donated to VA of the Department of Defense for maintenance. For more information on Fisher House, visit www.fisherhouse.org.
