The construction of 56,368 houses was approved by PMAY-U at the 53rd meeting of the Central Sanctions and Monitoring Committee on Monday evening. These houses are to be built under various branches of the PMAY-U mission, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development said in a statement on Tuesday.
Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), urged states and union territories to ensure 100% completion and delivery of PMAY-U homes to all eligible beneficiaries within the mission period. The participating States / UTs were also instructed to use the online mechanism (MIS) to properly implement and monitor the mission.
The progress of Light House Projects (LHPs) and Demonstration Housing Projects (DHPs) was also reviewed by the MoHUA. The foundation stones of the LHPs were laid by the Prime Minister on January 1, 2021. The houses under the LHPs are being built in Lucknow, Ranchi, Rajkot, Agartala, Chennai and Indore. To promote these LHP locations, the ministry has launched an online registration campaign to encourage large-scale citizen participation and raise technical awareness, learn locally, come up with solution ideas, experiment and encourage innovation.
MoHUA also said the homes will be allocated on behalf of female beneficiaries or co-ownership to promote women’s empowerment. States and union territories must adhere to the recommendations issued by the ministry at all levels and, in the first place, ensure that the name of the beneficiary appears on the nameplate of their PMAY-U house.
MoHUA intends to make Pucca Homes available to all eligible Urban India beneficiaries by 2022.
The construction of PMAY-U houses takes place in different phases. To date, more than 73 lakh houses have been grounded and nearly 43 lakh completed, the ministry added.
