Huntsville metropolis officers inexperienced mild MLK Group Middle development mission

March 17th – Huntsville officials are pushing the renovation and expansion of the MLK Community Center.

The current MLK Recreation Center was built in the 1970s and has hosted club activities and special events for decades. However, it has expired. In Tuesday’s vote, Burditt Consultants won a $ 310,000 contract for design and construction support services for the project. The total project is estimated at $ 2.95 million.

Burditt proposes building an adjoining structure to the current building while the existing center is being renovated. The plans would almost double the space and include a multipurpose classroom, a youth room and two conference rooms.

“We went through this and that one more time and got intensively involved in this project,” said Mayor Andy Brauninger, before calling for a vote.

“We are very excited about this project and will do a great job of getting the community involved,” added Charles Burditt, President of Burditt Consultants.

Burditt noted that the design of the project will take approximately 5 1/2 months, with construction going to take a minimum of eight months.
