Cities are the most important part of green and low carbon development.

Ten years ago, the Chinese government started a demonstration program for low-carbon pilot cities in Dalian, Sanya, Guiyang, Nanchang and Nanning to kick off green development for other non-piloted provinces and cities. It is of great importance for China to meet its target of achieving carbon emissions by 2030.

As a result, the population in pilot low-carbon regions made up around 40 percent of the total population in the country, and their share of GDP was 60 percent.

Green constructions with the aim of reducing energy consumption and alleviating the energy crisis offer comfortable and environmentally friendly work or living spaces. They mitigate negative ecological effects of urban development such as carbon dioxide emissions and urban heat islands.

The concept of green constructions is gradually being recognized by society as the environment advances. People are realizing that eco-friendly constructions can create an ecosystem in which the elements in and out of buildings are recycled and switched in an orderly manner, thereby maximizing the reduction in pollution and the consumption of resources and energy.

Green constructions are vital to the comfort and quality of life in the environment. In order to reduce the environmental pressure of buildings, to offer the residents healthy living spaces and to achieve a sustainable development of buildings, people and the environment are core goals of environmentally friendly constructions.

In recent years, China has introduced guidelines to guide the development of the green construction industry. The authorities have created incentives for companies that implement green building standards and encourage the promotion of green buildings. In addition, energy-saving technologies are being improved to meet the requirements for green building in low-carbon cities.

While building resources are being used rationally today, many regions are making urbanization plans more scientific by using the lowest possible carbon and environmentally friendly building materials to help develop a recycling system for green energy.

While the urbanization process is profound, relevant industries and departments incorporate environmental protection into their designs in order to achieve environmentally friendly construction goals. Also, companies use low-carbon technologies such as solar energy and water recycling in their construction designs to help meet environmental goals and reduce litter, noise and light pollution during construction.

The Chinese government is currently issuing preferential measures to promote environmentally friendly constructions, and local authorities are also introducing relevant incentives and monitoring mechanisms. In addition, the concept of green building is represented by many non-governmental organizations and companies. The low carbon awareness of government, business and the general public will be significantly improved in regions that have started the demonstration program for low carbon pilot cities. This has laid a solid foundation for achieving environmentally friendly, low-carbon development.
