In Colombia, construction is currently underway on the Pacifico 1 corridor. The project is being carried out by Concesionaria Vial del Pacifico (Covipacifico), which holds the concession for the route. The construction of the new section of motorway costs more than 685 million US dollars.

So far, 5.2 km of the route have been built. Upon completion of the project, 32.2 km of new motorway will be added while maintenance work will also be carried out on 18 km of existing roads. The project is complex as it includes the construction of a tunnel, two viaducts, two bridges and a large junction.

A significant portion of the project’s funding will be provided in the form of a $ 148 million loan from international institutions Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and Santander. The Pacifico 1 road project is part of the Colombian fourth generation (4G) program, is currently around 70% complete and should be ready for traffic in the third quarter of 2023.
