23 of the workers who dropped tools at the Kunene Vocational Training Center (KVTC) construction site on Thursday have signed new contracts with the main contractor Adaptive Land Building Construction CC. The 23 were previously employed by Adaptive Land Building Construction CC before being taken over by various subcontractors on the construction site.

Adaptive Land Building Construction CC’s site representative, Handsome Marenyanya, said workers signed a contract on Thursday that will come into effect on March 8th.

The contracts stipulate that the employees will work for Adaptive Land Building Construction CC for three months. Marenyanya said employees will get N $ 16.94 an hour if they work eight hours a day and no more than 45 hours a week. The workers had complained that they were receiving N $ 13.75 an hour from subcontractors.

Johannes Shipopyeni, owner of Omeyameno Investment CC, said he will increase the pay of casual workers, although he is getting little from Adaptive Land Building Construction CC. The Deputy Mayor of Khorixas, Doloko / Huiseb and Chair of the City Administrative Committee, Marcia Hendricks, visited the site yesterday where she held a meeting with CC representatives from the Adaptive Land Building Construction.
