NEW DELHI : Larsen & Toubro (L&T), major in engineering and construction, said Monday that its power transmission and distribution business had signed large contracts both domestically and internationally across its offering.

Although the company has not disclosed the exact value of the contracts, a large contract as per its specification falls between £2,500 crore and £5,000 crore.

As traditional power generation companies are rapidly expanding the renewable capacity in their portfolios, PT&D has won two EPC contracts to set up more than 400 MW solar photovoltaic projects in the state of Gujarat.

The scope of these packages includes planning, engineering, delivery, construction, testing, commissioning as well as operation and maintenance of grid-connected solar systems with an output of around 200 MW each. L&T is one of the world’s leading EPC providers in the renewable energy sector and can look back on a track record of building some of the largest solar systems.

A 765 kV double loop transmission line package was received from a project specific transmission company. This line is connected to the transmission scheme for evacuating electricity from solar energy zones in Rajasthan.

In West Bengal, turnkey orders were received for the supply and installation of high voltage distribution systems in certain districts. This network modernization program in semi-urban and rural areas is carried out by the state with multilateral support. Another contract for the construction of 220 kV and 132 kV transmission lines was placed by the state transmission company.

The company has received an order for a 400 kV substation in Tamil Nadu. The scope of the package includes the establishment of a complete substation with associated transformers, reactors, switchgear, control and protection, automation systems for substations, etc. This project aims to cope with future load growth in the Coimbatore region and to strengthen the evacuation system of an upcoming pumped storage power plant .

In Qatar, the company received the order to install grid-connected current limiting reactors in the country’s grid for the first time. With the expansion of the power grid, this 400 kV system will help improve grid stability and enable existing switchgear to be used without major replacement.

Mr. T. Madhava Das, full-time director and senior executive vice president (Utilities) of L&T, said: “These orders are proof that L&T is a reliable EPC player for the implementation of projects from electrification to energy transition is uniquely positioned with speed and scalability to utilities and developers worldwide “.

Larsen & Toubro is an Indian multinational company engaged in EPC projects, hi-tech manufacturing and services with sales of over $ 21 billion. It operates in over 30 countries.
