PART of a major link on Limerick’s north side is expected to close for a month to facilitate construction of Northern Distributor Road.

The council proposes that the New Road, which runs parallel to the Shannon and connects Thomondgate with Kileely and Moyross, be partially closed from Monday 23 August to Sunday 26 September.

The plan envisages that the thoroughfare from the intersection with Longpavement near Kileely will be closed for a distance of 36 meters in a south-easterly direction.

This enables the construction and realignment work required for Coonagh to Knockalisheen Road at the junction with Longpavement.

Work on the road, which is considered essential to opening up the Moyross community, is ongoing.

Access for pedestrians is guaranteed at all times, local detours will be set up and emergency vehicles can also drive into the street if necessary. General vehicle access is on Smith O’Brien Avenue.

Elsewhere, the council is also planning a local street in Annacotty that will be closed during the day for the month of September.

The L-111-62 in Annacotty from the intersection with the L-111-1 in Annacotty Village to the Walkers Road / Riverbank Road roundabout is closed from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Intended traffic on this route will be diverted onto Walkers Road via the R445 and L-111-2 Dublin Road.

⚠️ Road works will take place on the R513 Glenacurrane between Mitchelstown Golf Club and Ballyfauskeen Cross Monday 9th to Friday 13th August 2021, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily
